The community was concerned and disappointed at the reduction of the Russian language being taught to at "Background Speakers" level. It is felt that this level is far too high particularly for people wishing to study Russian and who do not come from Russia. The previously taught levels provided the opportunity for all Australians to undertake this course.
The meeting resolved to call upon the Minister for Education and Training , Mr. John Aquilina MP to to reverse his decision with respect to abolishing the Russian 2 Unit Z, 2 Unit and 3 Unit studies courses for the HSC.
